Nominations

The nomination deadline is October 1 of each year. Nominations submitted after the deadline will be considered in the subsequent award cycle. 

The Carrier Medal is open to senior scientists of international standing. Collaborative teams or research groups may also be nominated. The Selection Committee welcomes nominations from individuals affiliated with any of the following categories:

• Members, Fellows, or Leaders of National Academies
• Presidents or Chairs of scientific societies
• Presidents, Provosts, or Deans of leading universities
• Presidents of internationally renowned scientific organizations or research institutes
• Recipients of major international science prizes (e.g., Abel Prize, Nobel Prize, Wolf Prize, Japan Prize, Kavli Prize, Breakthrough Prizes, Franklin Institute Awards, Albert Einstein World Award of Science)
• Heads of state, ministers of science, education, technology, or culture
• Other distinguished authorities recognized by the University of Notre Dame

All nominations remain valid for consideration over three successive award cycles.
